CHILD DEVELOPMENT CATEGORIES/SKILLS:
Cognitive skills are the mental skills children use to acquire knowledge. It is the ability to learn and solve problems through reasoning, perception, and intuition.
Fine motor skills are small muscle movements, usually fingers and toes, used to grasp, pinch, wiggle, hold, or maneuver objects.
Gross motor skills are large muscle movements, usually arms and legs, used for sitting up, rolling over, crawling, walking, running, or jumping.
Sensory skills involve using one or more of the five senses; seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, or smelling.
Recognition skills are the act of recognizing or associating physical characteristics, such as color, shape, size, etc.
Social-Emotional skills increase self-awareness and self-control by increasing social skills and emotional development. It entails knowing what emotions to express socially.
Thinking and problem solving skills are voluntary responses that help children determine the difference between right and wrong, using their own train of thoughts and ideas.
Speech and language skills are the fundamentals of understanding and using language. It consists of verbal and non-verbal forms of communication associated with ideas or feelings. Listening, reading, writing, and speeking are all forms of speech and language.
Creativity is the essence of every child. This trait is what makes every child unique in his or her own way. It is the ability to create using ones imagination.
